What is MEAPA?
MEAPA is  an organization that promotes public awareness, education, and community outreach for the prevention of Elder Abuse and Late-Life Domestic Violence. The organization has a no-cost membership which includes bi-monthly meetings with guest speakers, sub-committees and program reports, and networking opportunities.

Who  are MEAPA members?
More than 140 professionals from a variety of disciplines including  government, healthcare, law, law enforcement, long term care, behavioral health and private businesses. These professionals work together with a passion for giving back to their  community by protecting adults who are vulnerable or incapacitated.

What is Elder Abuse?
Elder Abuse comes in many forms:

  • Emotional Abuse
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Neglect
  • Self neglect
  • Financial Exploitation

Who is at Risk?
People who abuse and exploit the elderly do not discriminate.  Their abuse affects people in every segment of society, all ethnic and social backgrounds, and both men and women.  An elder abuse victim may be your neighbor, friend or family member.  It is estimated that only one in every 10 cases of elder abuse is  reported.
