CAREGIVER RESPITE

Caring for an older adult can be as challenging as it is rewarding. In many cases, the family is the primary source of support for an older adult who is no longer able to care for him or herself alone. The responsibility can be demanding, not only on the family member's time, but also on personal energy, resources and health.

The Caregiver Respite Program offers an individual who cares for an older parent, grandparent or friend, a personal break from their role as caregiver. The respite program connects qualified caregivers with a trained, skilled professional who will come to the family's home and care for an elderly adult while the primary caregiver attends to his or her own needs.

Emergency respite is also available for situations in which a caregiver must leave the person unattended for reasons such as a medical emergency. FOR A LIMITED TIME- Get the Assistance you need today!

The Lifespan Respite Care Program offers services to any (not necessarily “family”) unpaid primary caregiver of an individual who does not currently receive any publicly funded respite services.

Respite care is considered to be a temporary service to provide a brief period of relief or rest to the caregiver.

Priority will be given to caregivers caring for someone with a physical or mental disability, or with a chronic or limiting illness.  The care recipient has to be 18-59 years old and determined to be unsafe to stay alone.

The following respite options are offered:

 In-home respite
 Group respite care setting such as an Adult Day Care facility
 Limited 24 hours in-home respite or temporary placement

This is a service offered for a limited time, between February 1, 2008 and June 30, 2008.  Fees are based on a sliding scale.

This program is funded through the Division of Adult and Aging Services (DAAS) and coordinated by the Area Agency on Aging, Region One.
