The Benefits Assistance Program is part of the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) Network.
Volunteer Counselors provide objective information about Medicare, related insurance and other benefits to seniors, people with disabilities and caregivers. Basic training consists of 5 days providing a broad overview of Social Security, Medicare, AHCCCS and Long Term Care. This Basic training is followed by 16 hours of on-the-job training. Volunteers usually give a standard commitment of 4+ hours per week. There are various locations throughout the valley where volunteers can participate, as well as, options to provide phone support at the Area Agency on Aging or for the statewide Medicare Hotline.
