OPPORTUNITY CORPS/ADOPTED GRANDPARENTS

Opportunity Corps/Adopted Grandparents places teams of seniors, age 55 and older, in elementary schools where they assist with programs such as student tutoring, music lessons, and after-school programs.

Statistics indicate that 90 percent of the children who do not learn to read in first grade become dropouts. Built on the philosophy that the baby boomer generation is capable of bringing about a powerful change in volunteerism, the program offers older adults the opportunity to make a difference in children's lives.
